Can the Imp in Lycra save your life?
This puzzle dungeon will have your players testing every combination to find the secret ingredient.
Using this tool is leading to my most creative dungeons ever.
It’s over a week since I launched the Dungeon Shuffle, and using this random generator tool has led me down some fantastic paths. I think it’s a little like automatic drawing, where simply getting started offers some unexpected conclusions.
There’s still plenty of time to get your free copy of the shuffle and take part in the mini-jam. I’ve seen some fantastic work in progresses and was thrilled to see
release the first official contribution:Sanctum of the Scattered Cornucopia
This week’s dungeon from me got pretty weird, pretty fast.
I’d started with the ‘Civilized’ theme and got fairly interested in the cross shapes that were forming on the map. I’ve also been fascinated by the recent High Rollers arc which is a dungeon crawl built around collecting and combining coloured key stones to open various doors. I like the idea of building a bigger dungeon around this soon, but wanted to try some colour theory in a smaller dungeon.
As I was considered colours and rewards, the idea of fruits popped in to my head (I was hungry at the time). The day before I overheard the story of a work colleague who was diagnosed with potassium poisoning after eating six bananas a day and the story of Herbert Regular was born.
The idea of a food fads dungeon struck me as something strange and unique. The imp in Lycra was a natural conclusion, clearly.
Keep the weird and wonderful coming
This is a very different flavour to last week’s dungeon, Best Served Caustic and I want to keep that going until the mini-jam ends at the end of April.
There’s still plenty of time to get involved and I would love to see what you come up with. As I hope you can see, these dungeons are not meant to be polished and ready for print. They are about inspiring others to give it a go, and getting something out into the world that’s rough and ready. That’s been the whole ethos of Mage Advice from day one.
You can still get a free copy of the Dungeon Shuffle by becoming a free subscriber:
Buy the Skeleton a coffee!
Speaking of rough and ready, I’ve made my first ever zine available in my new Ko-fi shop.
This was something I released a few months ago as a perk to subscribers, but is now available for just a £1. You get five skeleton variant statblocks for 5e in a fun printable zine, but I also created a mobile friendly digital version that is included in your purchase. It’s a little less beautiful, but a lot more practical!
You can read all about the skeletons using the link above, or simply dive right in and get printing.
I’ve not even begun to start work on next week’s dungeon, so I cant tease ahead, but I am considering making use of those funny little skeletons I created.
I cannot find the link to Dungeon Shuffle. I'm sorry if I missed it.
I would love to check it out !
